INB Itataia

The Itataia deposit is located in the Phosphorous Uraniferous P-U District, in the central part of Ceará State, about 45 km Southeast from the Santa Quitéria town.

The P-U District of Ceará central region is divided into two tectonic units known as Double Belt (Cinturão Dobrado) and Jaguaribe of Santa Quitéria Massif.

The Itataia deposit has geological reserves of 142.5 tons of phosphate-associated uranium. The mining reserve has 79.5 million tons of ore with 11% contents of P205 and 998 ppm of U308 containing in this ore, 8.9 million tons of P205 and 79.3 tons of U308. Also in this mine about 300 millions of m3 of marble can be used, totally uranium free.

Located at 212 kilometers from Fortaleza, the major economic activity of the region is farm and cattle-raising.

Although it is the larger uranium reserve of the country, its economic feasibility depends on the exploration of the associated phosphate. This means that the uranium extraction is conditioned to the production of phosphoric acid - an input used in the fertilizer production.
