Licensing
The construction and operation of Brazilian nuclear facilities as well as the transport
of nuclear materials are subject to a comprehensive and detailed licensing procedure at
the Comissão Nacional de Energia Nuclear - CNEN (the Brazilian nuclear regulatory authority) and at the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis - IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources). These two entities evaluate occasional impacts
from such activities on workers, the general public and the environment, and thereby grant
or not the licenses and permits required to their operation, besides setting the conditions
and requirements to be met by the company. Licenses are granted with defined expiry dates
and the licensing department is responsible for monitoring the compliance with their
requirements to grant renewal thereof.
