Vice Director of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mikhail Chudakov, visited the facilities of the Nuclear Fuel Factory - FCN last Tuesday (10/12). The Russian was accompanied by a delegation formed by officials of the Navy of Brazil, the Office of Institutional Security of the Presidency and the president of Eletronuclear. The visit was led by INB President Carlos Freire, assisted by the Directors of Administration and Finance, Isotope Enrichment and Nuclear Fuel Production, and the Superintendents of Fuel Engineering, Fuel Production and Isotopic Enrichment.
According to Freire, Mikhail's presence at INB reflects that Brazil remains inserted in the Agency's context and may represent advances for the sector.
“IAEA has programs aimed at supporting countries like ours, which have power plants, produce nuclear fuel and are interested in expanding. They can support us with training and retraining of personnel, as well as help us improve decommissioning techniques, and to give us support in international debates. For the Brazilian Nuclear Program, this visibility is of paramount importance,” he summarized.
Chudakov said he was quite satisfied with FCN's facilities. According to him, the visit aims to strengthen ties between the country and the Agency, aiming to share knowledge and experiences, and collaborate mutually for the expansion of the sector.
“INB has a new, clean, organized factory in full condition to meet the demands of Angra 1 and 2, and soon new power plants. I was very happy to be invited and to have the opportunity to know the facilities,” he said.
After visiting the Isotopic Enrichment and Fuel Element Assembly sectors, the group went to Eletronuclear, in Angra dos Reis, to learn about the last phase of the nuclear power generation process in Brazil.
