Brazil has significant uranium resources, which leads the country to occupy a prominent position in the world rankings. The resources are of the order of 244,788 tons of contained uranium (U3O8), distributed between the states of Bahia, Ceará and others.
It is estimated that the resources are even greater, since less than a third of the Brazilian territory was the target of mineral research. The northern region of the country has the potential to house more than 300 million tons of uranium. Potential areas have already been identified in Pitinga (Amazonas), where uranium is associated with other minerals, and Pará.
The countries with the highest potential for uranium resources are: Australia, Kazakhstan, Canada, Russia, Namibia, South Africa, China,Niger and Brazil. (source: World Nuclear Association).
